Different Actions = Different Results

Actions = Results. Different Actions = Different Results.

The question to ask yourself is: Are the actions you are taking right now in line with your intended results or do you need to take different actions?

I'll give you an example.  I was out for a run in Boston last week - yes, I was actually running.  I think it was the 3rd time in my adult life that I went for a run, the other 2 being in the last month as well.

As a non-runner, it's easy for me to sprint-run for a bit (I'm a sprinter at heart) then walk for a bit.  This was really evident in Boston when my body didn't want to run at all. I'd run for a block, then walk for two, until I had the thought:

'Are the actions I'm taking right now in line with my intended results?'

The answer was clearly no: I was running to be in top shape, and walking didn't produce the sort of fitness results I really wanted.  As soon as I recognized that, I had a choice: I could keep walking, knowing that it would produce different results than I really wanted, since my actions produce my results or, I could start to run again.

The answer was clearly no. My goal in running was to be in top shape, and walking didn't produce the sort of fitness results I really wanted.

As soon as I recognized that I had a choice.  I could keep walking, knowing that it would produce different results than I really wanted, since my actions produce my results.  Or, I could start to run again.

Which one do you think I chose?  Exactly, I started to run. I'm not going to be running the Boston Marathon anytime soon, nor do I want to quite honestly, but this action was actually in line with my fitness results, so not only did I feel great in the end, I also knew what to expect in my performance.
So whether you're in the pool, in the gym, on the field, or wherever else in your sport or in your life, take a look at the actions you are taking.  I promise you that if you look closely, and take away the emotion and judgment - just put it to the side for a moment - you'll be able to see that the results you currently have are a direct correlation with your actions.

What different action could you take today to get different results, the ones you actually want?

Now go do that!
