What a week it's been! When I last wrote my weekly Performance Pointer, I was in Calgary on vacation with friends. Now I'm just finishing my first week of my masters back at the University of Ottawa. In the last few days, I've learned more than every about time-management to make all of my life work.
For starters, I'm doing my masters full time while commuting from Toronto to Ottawa and back each week. I am also TAing a nutrition course, running my business, training to lead coursework with Landmark Education, launching my website, playing some volleyball again, and finding balance through being with my friends/family and working out! Wow!
So what's the trick to maximizing your time: Your Mindset. Let me explain further.
Sunday night I was totally freaking out, thinking 'I'm not good enough, I can't do all of this, what was I thinking starting my masters when I was really loving my life as it was??' Needless to say, last night awful living in that world.
And then it all shifted. I realized I was making all that stuff up. If I'm saying that I'm not good enough, I really have no proof. It's just my words. I could just as easily say that I am good enough. So, I chose that. And, if I'm saying that I'm overwhelmed, I could just as easily say that I'm excited: not make up a perspective that actually makes me feel good.
Because, from feeling good, I take action. So the last few days, that's exactly what I've been doing: I'm in action. My schedule is getting planned out so I get everything done, and I'm sticking to it because of my powerful perspective.
When I have a mindset that's a powerful perspective, I get what I need to done. If I'm stuck in the victim or in 'why me' or 'it's too much', I slow right down in my complaints and excuses. The powerful perspective I choose gives me the ability to feel good, and get stuff done!
Have you ever had that experience that you got something done in no time - this is what I'm speaking of. When we are passionate and inspired, it's amazing what we can accomplish. Passion and Inspiration are just two examples of powerful perspectives, ways to look at your experience to move you in the direction of your dreams.
So, on Monday I decided to create a life of adventure and fun, and I've written this beside my desk to remind me. If I'm focused on that, only then do I have the chance to get everything done. And if I don't, it's all part of the adventure
What do you want to create? Just make it up and make it fun, then live from that place.
In the words of Joseph Campbell: “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls”.
What do you choose for your mindset today? Does it empower you? If not, choose something else. :D
